DAY 2-lights and floor!

Get out of the heat this weekend!

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_magicmike.htm> Magic Mike
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Softer than expected but more involving than some may be
anticipating. For those who've waited too long to see cinema treat the male
specimen as the piece of meat women are so frequently gazed up as, "Magic
Mike" does nothing if not even the playing field.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/p/12_peoplelikeus.htm> People Like Us
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Works in spite of its problems due to some fine performances
and a bizarre dynamic that very nearly finds romance in a relationship
between half-siblings. That latter description is certainly not something
one sees every day in their wide-release Hollywood fare.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_takethiswaltz.htm> Take This
Waltz
★★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities & VOD - One of the most incisive-and also one of the most non-
objective-films in recent memory about adult relationships, "Take This
Waltz" astonishes in its raw, unaffected intimacy. Michelle Williams is
almost stupefyingly brilliant.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_ted.htm> Ted
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - The script doesn't match, or even comfortably pad out, the
slim concept, confusing juvenile vulgarity for wit. "Ted" isn't completely
barren of a heart, as the syrupy finale can attest, but the film neither
warrants nor earns the kind of laughs Seth MacFarlane was aiming to provoke.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_toromewithlove.htm> To Rome with
Love
★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Save for the naturally stunning on-location shooting and a
cast of excellent actors drowned like rats by the thankless screenplay,
there is virtually nothing to recommend in this aimless, desperately
amateurish, and, dare it be said, utterly pointless triptych of tales.

Air conditioner, popcorn, soda and entertainment!

Dustin Putman's Movie Reviews

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/a/12_alvh.htm> Abraham Lincoln:
Vampire Hunter
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Had more truth found its way into the story's fabrication,
"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" might have been able to bridge the gap
between the thrills of a horror picture with the prestige and emotion of
grandiose drama. As is, the film falls frustratingly short on both accounts.
<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/a/12_alvh.htm> Read the Full Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/b/12_brave.htm> Brave
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Based upon evidence as of late, Pixar should spend more time
perfecting their stories and less time trying to beat the clock on release
dates. The studio is in a definite downslide, and "Brave" is simply the
latest proof that they don't have the magic touch they used to.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/s/12_seekingafriend.htm> Seeking a
Friend for the End of the World
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - First-time director Lorene Scafaria has made an oddball
hybrid, full of absurdist humor that suddenly doesn't seem so crazy under
the tragic circumstances she sets up. It may be one of the bleakest
mainstream comedies ever released, but viewers willing to go with it will
find a conclusion that isn't depressing so much as it is wondrously
bittersweet.

some of our recent work

HOTWIRE is a rip-off

Have you ever bought an item-a car, a TV, a tool etc. and few days later is
goes on sale for 50% less? What do you do? Take it to the place of
purchase and ask that you be afforded the new discounted price. 9 out of 10
vendors will honor the request as good business practice. NOT HOTWIRE. All
sales are final when you rent a car. So here is what happened to me. I
rent a car a week ago. Yesterday, the same car is available for the same
time period on HOTWIRE for 50% less. I call and ask if they will afford me
the courtesy of the new discounted price. They not only say NO, but hell
NO. At the new discounted rate, the savings for the two week rental would
be significant and you would think that in today's highly competitive
marketplace, Hotwire would be more flexible. NOT. They have lost me as a
customer forever and let this note be WARNING to you all. Share if you have
had a similar experience with HOTWIRE!

Movies this weekend?

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/l/12_lolaversus.htm> Lola Versus
★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - "Lola Versus" plays like a studio-produced romantic comedy
as made by people who genuinely care about and are invested in their flawed
but kind-hearted protagonist. Greta Gerwig is one of the freshest, most
disarming actors of her generation.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/r/12_rockofages.htm> Rock of Ages
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Yeah, it's kind of repetitive and something of a mess, but
every time the chords of another classic song strike up, game audiences
will find the movie's eager-to-please, "Don't-Stop-Believin'" charms to be
next to irrepressible.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_thatsmyboy.htm> That's My Boy
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - It's impossible to warm up to "That's My Boy," despite its
many inspired bits. Whereas Adam Sandler is often accused by critics of not
trying hard enough, here he tries too much, and pays roughly the same
consequences.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/y/12_yoursisterssister.htm> Your
Sister's Sister
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - A pleasant, well-acted semi-love triangle dramedy. Writer-
director Lynn Shelton garners three terrific performances from her leads,
but does so while losing sight of her most promising narrative thread.

Prometheus it is!

Dustin Putman's Movie Reviews

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/d/12_darkhorse.htm> Dark Horse
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

NYC, Expanding Later - A slight, occasionally gimmicky, but still poignant
character study. "Dark Horse" is a hair too brief to gain the breadth or
impact it deserves, but Todd Solondz nevertheless sees and cares and loves
his characters in all of their faults and eccentricities.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_madagascar3.htm> Madagascar 3:
Europe's Most Wanted
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Ultimately, it's still nothing more than a willowy good time,
but it sends the characters and their ongoing story out on a high note. Now
let's stop while the franchise is ahead; by the end, there's nowhere else
for them to go. Leaving the story be right where it is would be the series'
last-and best-flourish.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/p/12_peacelove.htm> Peace, Love &
Misunderstanding
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Directed in an unobtrusive, low-key manner by Bruce
Beresford, "Peace, Love & Misunderstanding" is the kind of human-drawn
slice-of-life that's difficult to dislike. Or, at least, it would be if it
weren't for its obligatory story happenings and non-event of a conclusion.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/p/12_prometheus.htm> Prometheus
★★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Seemingly boundless in its thematic relevance, its three-
dimensional shades of characters, its eye-popping imagination, and its sly
insinuations and suggestions within a miraculously constructed narrative,
"Prometheus" is in many ways a groundbreaking feat of visionary art.

Leslies Pools Sucks!

So, I open the pool and get my water tested. Leslies Pools sells me $450.00
worth of supplies they claim I need. I talk to the guys who open and close
my pool and they say, give it a week-don't add anything. Sure enough, all
is well. So I go back to Leslies to return the supplies and come to find
out they have a "NO RETURN" policy for chemicals. Nonsense and they are
bunch of crooks. Never shop at Leslies. They will take your money and
laugh in your face doing it!

Dustin Putman's Movie Reviews

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/b/12_battlefieldamerica.htm>
Battlefield America
½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - "Battlefield America" has to be seen to be believed, but
please don't see it. It's the kind of film that has gone so wrong in so
many ways, it legitimately makes one wonder how it got made without a
single person raising so much as an eyebrow at the malarkey being put on
camera.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_moonrisekingdom.htm> Moonrise
Kingdom
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Were it not for 1998's "Rushmore," it would be easy to
write Wes Anderson off as a one-trick pony. Having proved he's capable of
greatness, however, has only made every one of his follow-ups all the more
disappointing. Where is the honesty to go along with Anderson's incessant
preening?

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/p/12_piranha3dd.htm> Piranha 3DD
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities & VOD - Whereas its predecessor was humorous but still kept a
certain seriousness to its exploits, "Piranha 3DD" fully and unabashedly
embraces the silly. As such, the film is eager to please and, at just 70
minutes sans very, very elongated end credits, over before a proper
conclusion has been reached. It's just as well, since what comes before
this is admittedly a bunch of junky fun. The oft-offended should consider
themselves warned.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/s/12_snowwhite.htm> Snow White and
the Huntsman
★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Close to spellbinding as entertainment, simultaneously
beautiful and gritty, threateningly dark as well as fantastical. When it
comes to fairy tales, half the battle is in the creation of a winning hero
or heroine and a bull's-eye adversary. "Snow White and the Huntsman"
understands this, then outdoes itself.
