Reston Sports and Health club

Here is this morning's stupid watch observation:
The average age of members working out daily is 45-50. Yet the morons insist on blasting Justin Beiber, Selina Gomez and other juvenile music. These guys were in the wrong line when God gave out brains!

Memorial Day

My heart is heavy is and my eyes swollen thinking of the brave men and women
who laid their lives down and for those who served or continue to serve our
nation in the quest for peace and freedom. It is in large part because of
them that I can today say "I am proud to be American and have nothing to
apologize for". God Bless.

How do you get Reston Sports & Health to pay attention? Verbal requests? NO. Written requests? NO. A picture paints a thousand words! Maybe they will after reading this! What you see are sweat pools around exercise equipment that have crystallized because they only wipe floors when they feel like it! wipe the floors. Sick and disgusting. Feel like wearing a white suit and surgical gloves at the gym.

Memorial Day

It was a pleasant Sunday in October of 1864. A young teenage girl, Emma
Hunter, and her friend Sophie Keller, gathered some garden flowers and
placed them at the grave of Emma's father, Dr. Reuben Hunter. Dr. Hunter, a
surgeon in the Union Army, had died only a short while before. On that same
day, an older woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer, was placing flowers a few sites
away on the grave of her son, Amos, a Private in the Union Army who had
fallen on the last day of the battle of Gettysburg. These women found in
their grief a common bond as they knelt together in that little burial
ground located in a quaint town in Central Pennsylvania where Mount Nittany
stands eternal guard over those at rest. Before the women left, they agreed
to meet again on the same day the following year in order to honor not only
their own but others who now might have no one left to kneel at their lonely
graves. The following year, what had been planned as a small informal
meeting turned into a community service. Just off Rt. 322, in the foothills
of the Alleghenies, you might pass right by this little town in the rolling
valley without realizing its historical significance - if not for a plain
little marker by the side of the road the reads: "Boalsburg, An American
Village - Birthplace of Memorial Day."

Get out of the heat for a few hours this weekend

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/c/12_chernobyldiaries.htm> Chernobyl
Diaries
★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - A stock horror movie setup and a real-life tragedy from
twenty-six years ago merge in anxiety-inspiring ways in "Chernobyl Diaries,"
a thoroughly frightening study in how to do a tried-and-true formula proud.
Will have all but the most stoic of audience members jumping and squirming
in their seats.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_mib3.htm> Men in Black 3
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - "Men in Black 3" ups the ante ever so slightly by incorporating
some fireworks and daring to the typical gags, but it's still more often
than not no great shakes. By the end of summer, audiences will be asking the
same question: "Men in Black who?"

The Democratic and Republican Conventions

My opinion:
Take the $36,000,000 tax payer dollars earmarked to be spent on these two events and divide up the money between the surviving family members of our men and women who have lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. A much better use of our money. Share if you agree or offer an alternative opinion.

Something for everyone this weekend!

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/b/12_battleship.htm> Battleship
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Without any feelings of wonder and certainly not enough
outward horror to be scary, "Battleship" readily loses its way, the
cornball dialogue calling all the more negative attention to itself. As is,
all we have is standard Big Hollywood fare, as creatively lazy as it is
technically competent.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/b/12_beyondtheblackrainbow.htm>
Beyond the Black Rainbow
★★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - "Beyond the Black Rainbow" is imperfect, but gloriously so,
creating, in its own way, a new, exciting, disorienting, unsettling, and
long-overdue filmic language. When 2012 is over, it will stand apart as a
motion picture not quite like any other.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/d/12_dictator.htm> The Dictator
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Sacha Baron Cohen is a fearless actor, never ceasing to
impress with how far he'll go to sell his characters and their personas.
When "The Dictator" wants to make a point, it does. When it doesn't, it
moves steadily between strikingly clever and disappointingly immature.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/w/12_whattoexpect.htm> What to Expect
When You're Expecting
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Exactly what most audiences will be expecting. It's safe,
obvious, and kind of vanilla. The best that can be said about "What to
Expect When You're Expecting" is that it's an agreeable way to spend 110
minutes-preferably at home on a rainy day, with expectations appropriately
tempered to "eh."

Mother’s Day

Special Edition:

In celebration of Mother's Day weekend, I have for you a special early
review and a fitting new/retrospective review holiday-combo! Enjoy!

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/d/12_dictator.htm> The Dictator
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide Wednesday 5/16 - Sacha Baron Cohen is a fearless actor, never
ceasing to impress with how far he'll go to sell his characters and their
personas. When "The Dictator" wants to make a point, it does. When it
doesn't, it moves steadily between strikingly clever and disappointingly

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_mothersday.htm> Mother's Day
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Now on Blu-ray/DVD - "Mother's Day" is nothing if not affecting and
effective. Reactions will be split down the middle, depending on the
viewer's endurance for tough material, but no one can say the filmmaker
didn't achieve what he set out to.

To be honest with you, I hope they do boycott the match and come this fall,
perhaps Boise State should take note of the fact that no one like watching

Anybody else disappointed with the inefficiency of Foursquare? More and more often, an error message displays saying location not found. Is it time to chalk this app up to "another one hit wonder"?

Dustin Putman's Movie Reviews

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/d/12_darkshadows.htm> Dark Shadows
★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Based on the 1966-1971 soap opera by Dan Curtis, this long-in-
the-works big-screen adaptation is fittingly lavish and tongue-in-cheek
without, as the misleading trailers would have a viewer believe, turning
the material into a joke. Hodgepodge or not, the nostalgia-laced "Dark
Shadows" is as imaginatively eccentric as it is blithely ghoulish.

Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/g/12_godblessamerica.htm> God Bless
America
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities and VOD - An unblinking rally cry for humanity in a pop-
culture-laden media landscape that makes its fortune out of exploitation
and humiliation. Writer-director Bobcat Goldthwait casts a cynical eye at
the place we all live and makes good enough points for his cinematic
diatribe to remain timely and worthwhile.

Full Review >>

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/r/12_road.htm> The Road
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Heavy on atmosphere but light on substance. While some of
writer-director Yam Laranas' bag of genre tricks are effective for such a
clearly low-budget effort, his tendency to cut to black before the payoff
becomes more frustrating than fun. "The Road" leaves one wishing for more
than it offers.

★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - As the first of 2012's summer blockbuster hopefuls, "Marvel's
The Avengers" is a crowd-pleaser through and through. It's thrilling when
it wants to be, it's got star power to spare, and the action and effects
are top-notch.
