May not be a bad weekend for movies after all...........

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/a/11_anotherearth.htm> Another Earth
★★★ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Fiercely independent but wildly ambitious in both resources
and sensibilities. Heavy philosophical questions permeate throughout
"Another Earth," but they are not the focal point so much as supplement to
a human study in grief and the possibilities of forgiveness.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/a/11_attacktheblock.htm> Attack the
Block
★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Outside of its sheer homegrown admirability and
resourcefulness, "Attack the Block" is charmless, juvenile, too self-
satisfied by a half, and finally despicable in the wrongheaded thematic
messages it sends out at the end. Whatever appeal "Attack the Block" might
have for some viewers is totally lost on me. This is subpar on nearly every
level.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/c/11_cowboysandaliens.htm> Cowboys &
Aliens
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - "Cowboys & Aliens" surpasses expectations at the onset with an
imaginative genre-mashing setup and a focus on characters before fireworks,
then collapses with a blunt suddenness midway through as hokey revelations
and an overload of wheel-spinning take over.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/c/11_crazystupidlove.htm> Crazy,
Stupid, Love.
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - "Crazy, Stupid, Love." doesn't necessarily break ground in
what it has to say about love, but then, what is there to say that can't be
accurately captured by the human experience? Warts and all, directors Glenn
Ficarra and John Requa understand the ins and outs and complicated beauty
of relationships.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/s/11_smurfs.htm> The Smurfs
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - An unexpectedly gentle, valiant comedy with plenty of
worthwhile messages to send out to younger viewers. Much like the
deceptively resourceful little blue guys of the title, it's wise to never
judge a book-or a film-by its cover. "The Smurfs" won't be an awards
contender anytime soon, but it is altogether sweetly smurfier that anyone
could have predicted.
