Nationwide - Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy work deliciously as a unit. Because of them—and the savvy filmmakers on the opposite side of the camera—"The Heat" is worth running out to see for anyone who dares lament that they don't make funny movies like they used to.

Maniac

VOD & Select Cities - An effectively disconcerting horror picture. Warts and all, "Maniac" still does what it should, digging under the skin and never for a second shying away from the grim realities of a protagonist who's not only an antagonist as well, but a violent sociopath.

White House Down
★½ (out of ★★★★)
Nationwide - A political disaster movie that also, little by little, turns into a cinematic disaster. Movies like "White House Down" don't have to be beacons of authenticity as long as they treat their audience with a modicum of respect. This one doesn't.
