An alternative to the football playoff games?

Opening This Week:

★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Gina Carano has got what it takes to move on to fuller, richer
parts in better films. For now, she's got a nice start in "Haywire."
Without her, there'd be no use for such a familiar, threadbare film to
exist at all.

½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - "Red Tails" is off-putting for plenty of reasons, but its
shameless self-satisfaction-and for no valid reason, turning a prideful
part of black history into an unenlightened, frequently derogatory free-for-
all-is more than enough on its own to turn stomachs.

Awakening
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Fleet pacing and some adequately handled action leave one
wondering if this might be the movie to turn the underachieving franchise
around. Instead, it loses its way just when it should be getting taken to
the next level. All things considered, "Underworld: Awakening" is at least
on par with its predecessors.
