DAY 2-lights and floor!

Get out of the heat this weekend!

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/m/12_magicmike.htm> Magic Mike
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Softer than expected but more involving than some may be
anticipating. For those who've waited too long to see cinema treat the male
specimen as the piece of meat women are so frequently gazed up as, "Magic
Mike" does nothing if not even the playing field.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/p/12_peoplelikeus.htm> People Like Us
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Works in spite of its problems due to some fine performances
and a bizarre dynamic that very nearly finds romance in a relationship
between half-siblings. That latter description is certainly not something
one sees every day in their wide-release Hollywood fare.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_takethiswaltz.htm> Take This
Waltz
★★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities & VOD - One of the most incisive-and also one of the most non-
objective-films in recent memory about adult relationships, "Take This
Waltz" astonishes in its raw, unaffected intimacy. Michelle Williams is
almost stupefyingly brilliant.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_ted.htm> Ted
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - The script doesn't match, or even comfortably pad out, the
slim concept, confusing juvenile vulgarity for wit. "Ted" isn't completely
barren of a heart, as the syrupy finale can attest, but the film neither
warrants nor earns the kind of laughs Seth MacFarlane was aiming to provoke.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/t/12_toromewithlove.htm> To Rome with
Love
★½ (out of ★★★★)

Select Cities - Save for the naturally stunning on-location shooting and a
cast of excellent actors drowned like rats by the thankless screenplay,
there is virtually nothing to recommend in this aimless, desperately
amateurish, and, dare it be said, utterly pointless triptych of tales.

Dustin Putman's Movie Reviews

Opening This Week:

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/a/12_alvh.htm> Abraham Lincoln:
Vampire Hunter
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Had more truth found its way into the story's fabrication,
"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" might have been able to bridge the gap
between the thrills of a horror picture with the prestige and emotion of
grandiose drama. As is, the film falls frustratingly short on both accounts.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/b/12_brave.htm> Brave
★★ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - Based upon evidence as of late, Pixar should spend more time
perfecting their stories and less time trying to beat the clock on release
dates. The studio is in a definite downslide, and "Brave" is simply the
latest proof that they don't have the magic touch they used to.

<http://www.dustinputman.com/reviews/s/12_seekingafriend.htm> Seeking a
Friend for the End of the World
★★½ (out of ★★★★)

Nationwide - First-time director Lorene Scafaria has made an oddball
hybrid, full of absurdist humor that suddenly doesn't seem so crazy under
the tragic circumstances she sets up. It may be one of the bleakest
mainstream comedies ever released, but viewers willing to go with it will
find a conclusion that isn't depressing so much as it is wondrously
bittersweet.
